The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team earned a 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-15) sweep over UC Riverside on Saturday at The Venue at UCF during the final day of play at the UCF Tournament in Orlando, Fla.
With the win, UTC improves to 2-1 overall while the loss drops UC Riverside to 1-1 overall.
Chattanooga capitalized on a strong attack percentage of .306, committing only eight errors compared to UC Riverside's 27. The match featured a strong defensive performance from UTC, who totaled 57 digs during the victory. The pivotal moment occurred in the opening set as the Mocs edged UCR 27-25, setting the tone for the sweep.
Set 1 – 27-25, UTC
In the first set, Sydney Jackwin led with six kills in the set. Ashley Reynolds contributed significantly with multiple assists, setting up key plays for UTC.
Set 2 – UTC 25, UCR 22
Gracie Rose contributed significantly with multiple kills, including a key point at 16-12. Reynolds assisted on numerous kills, leading to crucial points for the Mocs. Bailey Burgess and Destiny Wiggins combined for multiple blocks, disrupting UC Riverside's attack. Chattanooga capitalized on UC Riverside's attack errors, scoring several points off these mistakes.
Set 3 – UTC 25, UCR 15
Jackwin contributed significantly with four kills during the set. Rose added three kills to UTC's offense. Chattanooga capitalized on UC Riverside's errors, with multiple attack errors leading to points for the Mocs. Caiti Barthel recorded a service ace, aiding in Chattanooga's scoring run.
