Helen Doris McBryar Manis
Helen Doris McBryar Manis of Chattanooga died on Friday, August 29, 2025, at age 85.
She was born to Thomas Jefferson McBryar and Edith Nora Hobbs McBryar on Dec. 13, 1939. She was raised in the Lookout Valley community and lived and worked there most of her life. She was a formally trained hairdresser and was owner/operator of Hair Styles by Helen for 30 years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was very quick witted. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. She was creative and artistic, trying her hand at many crafts and hobbies, but focused predominantly on crochet and oil painting. She was an animal lover and cared for many cats and dogs throughout her lifetime. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, and will be deeply missed.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Manis; son, Stephen Anthony Manis; parents, Tom and Edith McBryar; sisters, Marie McBryar Crane and Juanita McBryar Russell; brothers, Charles McBryar, Tommy McBryar, Wilburn McBryar, Bruce McBryar, and Kenneth McBryar; nephews, Ernie Crane, Curtis Russell, and Kent Russell; and beloved brothers-in-law, Ernest Crane and Floyd Russell.
She is survived by her daughter, Jamie Hudson of Dunlap; grandson, Josh Manis of Cleveland; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 5, at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel. The funeral service will begin at noon in the funeral home chapel with Eddie Lowrance officiating. Burial in Hamilton Memorial Gardens will immediately follow the funeral service.
