U.S. Army Veteran Retired As Vice President Of T.U. Parks Construction

James “Jim” Wesley Garner left this earth on August 25, 2025, at the age of 95.

Jim was born on Sept. 29, 1929, in Huntsville, Al., to Henry Eugene and Beatrice Garner. The family moved often in the early years. After graduating from Oak Ridge High School in 1947 his family moved to Chattanooga. Jim attended David Lipscomb College and Augusta Junior College before serving in U.S. Army. He met the love of his life, Johnnye Ruth Partin and they were happily married 68 years until her death in 2022. He was a faithful and longtime member of East Brainerd Church of Christ working on numerous building projects at church over the years.

He worked for T.U. Parks Construction Co. for over 39 years beginning as construction worker and working his way up to vice president helping to construct many hospitals and churches over the years in Chattanooga and throughout the Southeast.

He was always willing to help anyone with projects in their home and loved entertaining family and friends on their houseboat or winter home at River Forest Village, Punta Gorda, Fl.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnye Ruth Partin Garner, parents, Henry Eugene and Beatrice Garner, siblings, Loyce Arlen Garner, Neal Garner, Mary Frances Prophater and Edna Mae Scarborough.

Jim is survived by one son, James Wesley Garner Jr, one granddaughter, Abigail Patterson (Randy) of Lexington, Ky., one grandson, Pearson Neal Garner of Lexington, one sister-in-law, Gayle Keown, one brother-in-law, Bruce Keown, nieces and nephews, Gene Prophater, David Prophater, Marsha Boehm, Sam Garner, Bill Garner, Mark Keown, Grant Keown and several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Jim will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Heritage Funeral Home East Brainerd Road Chapel with David Prophater officiating. He will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Heritage Funeral Home East Brainerd Road Chapel.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Lantern at Morning Pointe on Shallowford and Hospice of Chattanooga for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to Boyd Buchanan School, Hospice of Chattanooga and Agape of Tennessee in the names of Jim and Johnnye Garner.
