The Chattanooga Department of Public Works today announced the launch of its first fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks, a significant step toward cleaner air and a more sustainable future for the city. This initiative is a core component of the Mayor's commitment to advancing environmental goals and improving air quality for all residents.
“Investing in a greener fleet isn’t just about protecting our environment; it’s about investing in the health and well-being of our community.
Teaming with the Signal Center and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is the perfect collaboration as we educate our community about recycling, and sustainability. We can use our fleet as a mobile billboard to also support the literacy of our young citizens. It’s a win for everyone!” said Jerramy Wood, Administrator, Department of Public Works. “These new trucks represent our dedication to smart, sustainable growth. We're not just improving our city's infrastructure; we're also taking a meaningful step toward a cleaner, healthier Chattanooga for everyone.”
To amplify its community impact, the new CNG trucks also feature a special partnership with Signal Centers as part of the annual Back-to-School Blitz, an initiative the Public Works Department created to provide specialized service to school zones with clean up efforts, safety checks, and a community piece of collecting school supplies for schools within city limits. The trucks are wrapped with eye-catching graphics that promote Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program that provides free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five. This dual-purpose campaign highlights the city’s commitment to building a stronger, more knowledgeable community by combining sustainability and early childhood literacy.
This strategic partnership leverages the visibility of the new fleet to reinforce a shared commitment to building a healthier, smarter, and more resilient community for years to come.
