Area songwriter Tom Brown is among the five finalists in the 2025 Suwannee Riverkeeper Songwriting Contest.
His entry, “Keep It Clean And Green,” is bluesy American song that recognizes the human role in protecting this important natural resource, officials said.
Finalists will play at the Finals of the Suwannee Riverkeeper Songwriting Contest at the WWALS River Revue on Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Turner Center for the Arts, in Valdosta, Ga.
Mr. Brown has placed three times in the John Hartford Songwriting Challenge, third place in the 2018 American Songwriter Contest, third place in the 2018 Woody Guthrie Songwriting Competition, runner up in the Podunk Bluegrass Festival and numerous honorable mentions.
In 2023 the song “This Ol’ River”, cowritten with Robert Thatcher, was selected as Best in the Folk/Bluegrass/Americana Category in the WWALS Watershead Coalition Songwriting Competition.
The two collaborators also won again in the Best Folk/Bluegrass/Americana category in 2024 with “Roll On Echo River.” Tom is also known for co-writing the bluegrass musical comedy “Fat Shirley’s: A Trailer Park Opera," which has been staged at numerous theaters in the southeast and in the United Kingdom.
