The officers and members of Second Missionary Baptist Church announce the 10th Pastoral Anniversary Celebration of the Rev. Dr. Ernest L. Reid, Jr.

Pastor Reid answered the call as under-shepherd of SMBC in October 2015, when he, First Lady Sherelle Harris Reid and their two sons, Ernest III, aka Tre’, and Noah relocated to Chattanooga from Pennsylvania. A graduate of the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, with advanced degrees in ministry, Pastor Reid’s tenure at SMBC has been one punctuated by extraordinary spiritual leadership, membership growth, compassionate congregational care, community advocacy, global missions, capital improvement, fiscal and administrative accountability and a vision of effective and dedicated service. His ability to impart the Word of God with discernment and a spirit of hope clearly reflects his anointment. He consistently refreshes and blesses listeners and viewers of worship and Bible study experiences through weekly in-person, virtual and radio broadcasts.

The two-day celebratory event begins on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Chattanooga Convention and Trade Center. The community is invited to join members in sharing an afternoon of appreciation, recognition, and tributes, while highlighting the theme, “Celebrating Ten Years of Excellence.” The program will feature an engaging range of participants, from professional and community leaders to church members, musicians and clergy.

Reservations for the semi-formal event may be made by Sept. 26, via the church’s website, www.mysmbchurch.org which uses the Givelify app at $78 per ticket, or during regular office hours at the church for $75 cash or by check payable to Second Missionary Baptist Church.

On Sunday, Oct. 19, Dr. Sammie Logan, III, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, Chesapeake, VA will be the guest preacher at the 10:45 a.m. worship service. Dr. Logan is a graduate of Morehouse College and the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. He later received a master of education degree from the College of William and Mary and a doctorate of ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC. Dr. Logan and is lovely wife Tonya are the parents of four beautiful children. In addition to his sixteen-year ministry at New Hope, he is an accomplished educator, school counselor and workshop facilitator. The community is invited to join Sunday’s anniversary celebration service in-person and remain for light refreshments afterwards. The service will be live streamed through the church’s website, or on Facebook and YouTube.

Whether in-person or viewing virtually, we believe you will be blessed by what promises to be an inspiring and uplifting celebration!
