Edna Meeker Matthews, 95, of Hixson, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

She was a daughter, sister, aunt, devoted wife and mother, beloved grandmother and great-grandmother and cherished friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. Mrs. Matthews was born in Jackson County, Al., to Charlie and Mollie Moore Meeker. She was a graduate of Jackson County High School, attended David Lipscomb College and Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Erlanger and Red Cross hospital volunteer. She was a longtime member of Red Bank Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert Matthews; parents, Charlie and Mollie Moore Meeker; brothers: Horace, Kyle, Harvie and Freeman; sisters: Ruby Meeker, Charlsie Peters, Dora Hawes, Dorothy Gentry and Sue Parrish.

Survivors include her daughters: Anita (David) Cagle, Roberta (Bob) Stafford and Linda (Tim) Dickerson; grandchildren: Amanda Poynter, Sarah (Michael) Vaughn, Christina (Andrew) Coats and Victoria (Tyler) Moller; seven great-grandchildren; sisters: Amanda Gentry, Kathryn Hallman and Jean Meeker; many nieces and nephews.

The family wants to thank Gooden’s Compassionate Care, Hearth Hospice, The Lantern in Collegedale and Tara Chapman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross

Visitation is from 12–2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
