The Chattanooga men’s and women’s cross country teams open the season at the annual Tennessee Cross Country Invitational hosted by the Vols at the Cherokee Farms Cross Country Course in Knoxville.
The men’s 4-mile race begins at 8:00 a.m. followed by the women’s 3-mile race at 8:45 a.m. With the race serving as a preview for the SEC Championships, the Mocs will face further competition in Alabama and Kentucky.
“We are excited to open our season in Knoxville on Friday,” Mocs head coach Steve Picucci said.
“It will be a great chance for part our team to put uniforms and spikes on for the first time this fall.
“Our main focus this week will be shaking the rust off and letting all the newcomers get their first UTC race in before we run the full team at the Southern Showcase in a couple of weeks.”
The Mocs have a range of returning talent along with a bevy of newcomers competing in the season-opening meet.
The Cherokee Farms Cross Country Course became a race venue for the Vols in 2016 and is located across the Tennessee River from the main campus. It is known for its balance of technical challenge and visibility, making it a favorite for early-season meets.
