When you see something doesn’t work you stop doing it, right? Well not where the progressives are in control of city councils. In 2016, the DC City Council enacted a social engineering experiment called the Comprehensive Youth Justice Amendment Act. It banned mandatory minimum sentences for juveniles tried as adults, banned life without parole for juveniles and allowed for a review of sentences for individuals having served at least 20 years for crimes committed as juveniles.
In 2018, that same Council updated something called The Youth Rehabilitation Act increasing the age of a “youth offender” from 22 to 24, made certain crimes ineligible and allowed some individuals to request their convictions to be overturned. The Act gave judges sentencing discretion in certain crimes where the defendant was under 24. Since 2020, the number of juveniles has increased with over 2,000 arrested in 2023 and 2024 (NBC Washington 4/3/25).
So why all the brouhaha over cracking down on crime, particularly “juvenile” crime in our nation’s Capitol? Well, when their city council rules an 18- to 24-year-old man is a juvenile that should give you a clue. Apparently the mayor of DC believes the crackdown is working (AXIOS 8/27/25).
In California, the smooth operating chameleon who portrays their governor is copying Trump’s plan, but pretending it’s his own. Big surprise (Newsweek 8/28/25). He’ll huff and bluster, but he’s not above plagiarizing someone else’s success pretending it’s his own.
So when you see something that works, will the other Democrat mayors where crime and murder rates are a major problem do what works?
