Loretta Zay Kinslow, 96, of Signal Mountain, entered into eternal rest with her Savior on August 27, 2025, passing peacefully with family at her side.

Loretta was born on September 25, 1928, in Bay, Arkansas. In May 1946 in Black Oak, Arkansas she married Charlie Rand and to that union was born a son, Doug Rand of Chattanooga, who survives.

Loretta was a homemaker most of her life. She loved the Lord, Dr. Pepper, and Ritz Crackers and was known to be feisty and cantankerous, yet lovable. At difference phases of her life, she answered to Rete, Nin, and LoLo. She most enjoyed her solar powered figurines that danced in the sun on her windowsill and eagerly looked forward to every new month to see what picture would be on her puppies and kittens calendar.

Her long life found her on the farm in her younger days and then traveling through the Midwest and Pacific Northwest states as a young married adult with her sharecropping family. After coming off the harvest in the 1950s, Loretta and Charlie settled in Indiana until his death in 1982. Four years later Loretta met and married Joseph Kinslow and made her home in Brooksville, Florida. After his death in 1993 she relocated to Trenton, Georgia, then to Lookout Valley, and finally to Signal Mountain until her passing.

Loretta is survived by her son Doug (Karen) Rand of Chattanooga, three grandchildren, Zachary (Caitlin) Rand of Marysville, Washington; Ashley Underwood of Chattanooga, and Zacharia (Julia) Landreth of Chattanooga. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Liam Rand, Brayden Rand, Sofia Rand, Hayden Landreth, Shelbi Underwood, Dawson Landreth, Deacon Landreth, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents John and Mattie Williamson, brothers Leland, Claude, and Allen, and sisters Clyda and Agnes. She was the last of her generation. Loretta was also preceded in death by grandson Darrell Rand in 1982.

Funeral services are pending final arrangements in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The family will gather locally for a celebration of life memorial at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff at Alexian Village and PACE for their exceptional care and support over the years and especially during this time. In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations to the McKamey Animal Center of Chattanooga.

“Come unto me all ye who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest”
