Design work is getting underway on several county school building projects tied to a $250 million bond issue.

Tinker Ma will design the Gateway Career Technical Education Building renovation for $1,593,014.

This is the former Gateway complex at the foot of Cameron Hill on West Sixth Street.

MTa Architecture and Planning will draw up plans for the Soddy Daisy Middle School renovation. Cost is $1,902,848.

HK Architects will have the design for the Brainerd High School renovations and expansion. This will utilize a construction manager at risk procurement process.

Also, the county is allotting $2,250,000 in bond funds to the county schools for the construction of a multipurpose building at McConnell Elementary and a playground partnership project with Trust for Public Land at Hardy Elementary School in East Chattanooga.

Officials said TPL is working on programs that will rehab existing school playgrounds and also make them available for public use. A previous similar project was at Eastside Elementary.
