Carole Lee Gienapp
Carole Lee Gienapp went to see her Savior, Jesus on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. She was 81.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1943, to Claude and Grace DePrine, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Susan, and her brother, Claude, Jr.
Carole grew up in Baltimore, Md., and graduated from Covenant College in St. Louis, Mo. She married Walter Gienapp in 1964, and they spent the next six decades raising a family of eight children, while pastoring churches and teaching in Christian schools in Illinois, Canada, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and eventually, Chattanooga.
Carole received a master’s of education degree from Covenant, and was a beloved Christian school teacher and then administrator for her entire career. She was also an accomplished pianist and organist, faithfully playing at almost every service her husband was leading.
Carole was known and loved for her spunky and sarcastic nature, her meticulously planned family dinners, her constant support of her husband’s endeavors, and her never-ending prayers for her children and grandchildren.
Carole is survived by her husband, Walter; her eight children, Skip (Becca), Andy (Jenny), John (Anita), Jamie (Laranda), Shannon (Chris), Marie, Rose (Mark), and Mitch (Tammy); 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and extended family.
A memorial service to celebrate Carole’s life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at Red Bank Presbyterian Church with Eric Duble officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Education Department at Covenant College, 14049 Scenic Highway, Lookout Mountain, GA 30750, or Red Bank Presbyterian Church, 4320 Dayton Blvd., Chattanooga, TN 37415 in her honor.
