The Chattanooga Golf and Country Club opened its course to the public for fhe 93rd annual Tennessee Women’s Amateur Tuesday through Thursday.
The course dates to 1896 and has been slightly changed over the years with more open vantage points toward the river and other areas, and the addition of a couple of lakes. However, the basic layout that has been around for decades remains.
The Tudor-style clubhouse dates to 1915 and has undergone several additions and remodelings over the years, including a recent porch-like wing added onto the south end closest to No.
18 green.
The course has also hosted the Tennessee Women’s Amateur in 2015, 1981, 1969, 1960, 1955, 1951, 1946, 1937 and 1928. Among those with Chattanooga connections, Betty Probasco, who died June 30, won there in 1955 and 1981, Marnie Polk won in 1951, and Judy Eller in 1960.
