Winning T-shirt design by fifth grader Hudson Mynatt
In preparation for Public Works Appreciation Week, May 18-24, the City of Red Bank Public Works Department teamed up with Alpine Crest Elementary School to host a T-shirt design contest. The purpose of the contest was to introduce students to the vital role that the Public Works Department plays in their community.
Red Bank Public Works Executive Office Manager Kate Hackney worked closely with Alpine Crest Elementary staff and fourth and fifth-grade students to create designs that showcase various Public Works activities.
The winning design was created by fifth grader Hudson Mynatt, and it will be printed on T-shirts that will be distributed to him and his classmates during appreciation week.
“The students of Alpine Crest were incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to design shirts, with one eventually coming to life,” said Alpine Crest Elementary math teacher, Clarissa Williams. “Our school is making remarkable strides by working to create community partnerships, and I was thrilled that we could collaborate with the City of Red Bank in a way that allowed our students to actively participate and witness their creations beyond the realm of paper.”
Ms. Williams believes the partnership empowers the students to recognize the significance of their work, even with the simplicity of designing a shirt. She said that not only did the Public Works Department come and participate in the school’s career fair, but also gave the students a voice and creative outlet, which Ms. Williams said is an amazing partnership to have.
Red Bank Public Works Director Greg Tate will present Hudson Mynatt, winner of the T-shirt design contest, with T-shirts for himself and his classmates during a special recognition event at Alpine Crest School on Wednesday, May 14 at 11 a.m.
“In celebration of this event, I want to express my pride in working alongside such an outstanding team of Public Works professionals,” said Mr. Tate. “The dedicated men and women of the City of Red Bank Public Works Department set the highest standards in their field.”
