James "Jim" L. Greenwalt, Jr.
On May 8, 2025, James "Jim" L. Greenwalt, Jr. peacefully passed away at home while sharing the morning with his wife, Elle Anderson Greenwalt.
Jim was born on Sept. 26, 1945, in Chattanooga, to parents James L. and Jean S. Greenwalt, who predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Julia Bliss Ferris.
Jim graduated from the McCallie School in Chattanooga in 1963 and attended the University of Chattanooga, the University of Texas, and the University of Tennessee College of Law. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. He also served in the U.S. Army as a drill sergeant and was stationed at several bases in the U.S., as well as serving as an advisor to Vietnamese Forces from 1969 to 1970 in An Xuyen Province. Jim was awarded two Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantryman Badge, and a Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
Jim spent most of his working years in Dallas, Texas in the shopping center industry and retired from the City of Dallas Office of Economic Development in 2012. While in Dallas, he served as an elder and church treasurer in the First Christian Church of Rockwell.
His favorite times were spent playing with grandchildren, fishing, exploring his Scottish heritage, and relaxing while enjoying a single-malt scotch whisky.
He is survived by his wife, as well as daughter Lauren C. and son-in-law Bill Mundy of Chattanooga, son-in-law James W. Ferris, Jr., of Rockwell, Tx., as well as stepdaughter Brooke Burns, of Chicago, IL. Jim had several grandchildren, whom he cherished dearly.
Jim will be interred at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, with J. Pat Williams delivering his eulogy.
