The public is invited to join Chattanooga and Hamilton County at noon on Wednesday for a public reading of the Declaration of Independence on the south steps of the Hamilton County Courthouse.
No preparation is necessary; a copy of the Declaration of Independence will be on the podium, divided into short segments for reading. Participants will line up, advance to the podium, read the segment and then exit down the steps.
"Let's continue our Countdown To America 250 with a 'speaking of the words' agreed upon by the Second Continental Congress," organizers said.
"Liberty and Eternal Vigilance."
The event is co-sponsored by Hamilton County Government, the City of Chattanooga Government, the Chattanooga Area Veterans Council, the Chattanooga Bar Association and the Chattanooga Regents Council, NSDAR [Chickamauga, Chief John Ross, Judge David Campbell, Moccasin Bend and Nancy Ward Chapters].
"Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday as we proclaim our commitment to the republic," organizers said.
