Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and Montessori Elementary at Highland Park are teaming up to host a Community Block Party on Friday, July 25, from 4-6 p.m. at the BlueCross Healthy Place in Highland Park, 1805 Anderson Ave. in Chattanooga, and everyone’s invited.
"The free, family-friendly celebration is a joyful way to bring together the entire Highland Park neighborhood and surrounding communities," organizers said. "With bounce houses, food trucks, local vendors, interactive games and on-site enrollment, the event will highlight what makes these two public, tuition-free charter schools such valued and vibrant parts of Chattanooga."
Food and games will be available for purchase.
Attendees will have a chance to:
- meet dedicated teachers and staff;
- learn more about innovative academic models and student-centered learning;
- explore open enrollment opportunities for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year; and
- celebrate the work of educators who make a difference every day.
This year’s Block Party will also include a canned food donation drive benefiting the schools’ on-site pantry.
“We’re asking attendees to bring canned goods so we can continue meeting critical needs,” said Dr.
Elaine Swafford, CEO of both schools. “Supporting students goes far beyond academics. It’s about showing up for the whole child and their family.”
"The Block Party is a celebration and example of community partnership. Local businesses, nonprofits and neighborhood advocates will host booths, offer giveaways and help create a fun, welcoming atmosphere centered on youth, education, and collective care," organizers said.
“At CGLA and MEHP, we believe strong schools help build strong communities,” said Dr. Swafford. “This block party is our way of honoring our teachers, welcoming new families and connecting with our neighbors in a fun, meaningful way. When we bring people together like this, we believe the entire neighborhood benefits.”
"Located in the heart of Highland Park, both schools serve as anchors in the community, fostering student leadership, personal growth and academic excellence," organizers said. "CGLA is Tennessee’s first all-girls public charter school, focused on leadership and STEAM. MEHP offers a Montessori approach designed to nurture curiosity, independence and love of learning from a young age."
"Celebrate the start of a new school year with music, movement, food and fun, and discover how CGLA and MEHP are working together to build a better future for students, families and the city," organizers said.
