The Stakes Of Plan Hamilton

  • Tuesday, August 19, 2025

The Plan Hamilton resolution looms large, and with the 2026 election cycle already upon us – complete with the fundraising and campaigning that entails – the timing couldn't be more critical. This plan, developed in close collaboration with homebuilders and real estate agents, raises serious concerns for residents of unincorporated areas. We deserve to understand why our elected officials seem to be prioritizing profit over the voices of their constituents.

While proponents may claim the plan addresses the need for housing and economic growth, these arguments ring hollow when considering the potential consequences for our community. Increased density, strain on existing infrastructure, environmental concerns, and inevitable traffic congestion are just some of the potential negative impacts. These are not abstract fears; these are real-life consequences that will directly impact the lives of residents in all districts.

This disregard for the voices of the community is unacceptable, especially in the lead-up to an election year. Commissioners who represent districts encompassing or adjacent to these unincorporated area and outside of city limits should remember that we, our families, friends, coworkers, and employees, have votes. We are interconnected, and our concerns resonate across district lines.

I invite anyone who supports this version of the Plan Hamilton resolution to respond publicly and explain their reasoning. Justify why this plan, crafted with developers and real estate agents, is preferable to alternatives that prioritize the needs and concerns of the community. We deserve transparency and accountability from our elected officials.

The 2026 election is fast approaching. We, the residents of this community, will remember which commissioners listened to our voices and which ones chose to ignore us. We will exercise our right to vote and hold our elected officials accountable for their decisions. We urge all residents to contact their commissioners and make their voices heard on the Plan Hamilton resolution. Your future depends on it.
