I find myself hesitant to say or post things for fear of being labeled as a Karen or crazy old lady. Sitting quietly as I am taxed out of my home seems far crazier.
I spoke with then citizen Clark to discuss the conditions and potential of Chattanooga's District 5 during his campaign. He made it clear that his platform was focused on police brutality of black men. He did ask to put a campaign sign in my yard. I messaged incoming Councilman Clark on election night. "Congratulations, Councilman, Clark." He responded, "We did it."
The road I live on has flooded three times this summer.
Not only once during the "100-year flood" as it has been coined. Two feet of my lot are gone to runoff erosion. Much more of it is filled with silt and gravel. It is simply gone.
Now Councilman Clark and others on the council, as well as Tim Kelly, who expect I can continue to pay that hefty storm runoff water fee AND a $.44 property tax increase. I cannot.
Any of you that have finally reached the point of writing your first open "letter to the editor" know how many other steps, conversations, emails, tears and sleepless nights we have taken to reach this point.
Do I want to see CPD and our brave firefighters be paid what they should be? Of course I do. We all do.
Mayor Kelly? Where do we go now?
