Chattanooga fell 1-0 on the road Sunday night in a non-conference women’s soccer match at Alabama. The Mocs even out their record at 1-1 while the Tide improves to 2-0.
An aggressive play on the ball led to the lone score of the game in the eighth minute. However, the Mocs shut down the Tide offense the rest of the way with keeper Caroline Ekern snaring a career-best nine saves.
“Very proud of the effort the squad put in tonight,” Mocs head coach Gavin McKinney said. “We fought hard and we played some good football.
We’re moving in the right direction and trending well. Looking forward to our next match.”
Zoey Mize had two of the Mocs five shots Sunday. Paige Thomas’ one shot in the match was a 1-v-1 with her working her way around on the right inside the box. The shot was deflected resulting in one of four UTC corner kicks.
One corner late in the first half bent into the goal to seemingly tie the match in the 43rd minute. It was called off due to a foul on the play that kept the Tide in the lead heading into the half.
EG Dillard and Reese Wilson each had a shot for the Mocs while Alabama fired off 26.
Chattanooga returns to Finley Stadium for a pair of home matches. UTC will host Indiana State Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and Morehead State Sunday afternoon. Admission to all Mocs home soccer matches is free.
