The remodeling and renovation project is almost complete, and the staff at the Katie Lamb Public Library in Collegedale is now making plans to host a grand reopening celebration.
Members of the community and surrounding areas are invited to attend the grand reopening celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 4-6 p.m. Guests attending the celebration will be treated to light refreshments and a chance to participate in a “Get to Know the New Library” Scavenger Hunt for all ages.
Named after former Collegedale Mayor Katie Lamb, the library was experiencing a significant increase in community usage and participation in its programs. The city recognized the urgent need for the remodeling and elected to begin the renovations in May. The library was then temporarily relocated to the East Room inside Collegedale City Hall while the work on the building was being done.
The remodeling is now complete, and the library staff is making preparations to reopen its doors. Guests attending the celebration will be delighted to find that the library now features a larger meeting room, three private study rooms, and an expanded children’s book area, said officials.
During the celebration, children will have the opportunity to participate in a special craft in the new children’s area. Guests are encouraged to peruse the silent auction items to be raffled off as a fundraiser for the library.
"Books have been my 'go-to' activity since a young child,” said Katie Lamb. “So to have a library carry my name is a real honor."
The Katie Lamb Public Library is at 9318 Apison Pike in Collegedale. For additional information about the grand reopening celebration or the library, go to Katie Lamb Public Library website or on Facebook @katielambpubliclibrary.
