Battling through a triple-digit heat index, Cleveland and East Hamilton split a pair of Region 3-AA battles Monday, at Windstone Golf Club.
Led by junior Dalton Franklin's 1-under-par 35, the Blue Raiders claimed a 161-167 victory, while senior Elizabeth Cordle paced the Lady Hurricanes with a 3-over 39 on the way to an 82-102 win.
Cleveland will be back in action Thursday with a trip to Niota to take on Rhea County and host McMinn County in District 5 action at Springbrook Golf Club.
East Hamilton will also be on the Bear Trace at Harrison Bay course Thursday, squaring off with Silverdale Baptist Academy.
Playing without head coach Lamar Mills, who was out of town on business, the Cleveland boys saw junior Brody Williford post a 2-over 38, while classmate Matt Milen helped out with a 42.
It was a "pick 'em" to round out the winning tally as both freshman Tucker Smith and sophomore Lee Windham both carded 46s.
Firing even-par 36, sophomore Isaac Koh topped the East Ham total, while senior Leo Vazquez shot 41.
Seniors Ryan Spencer and Micah Howard helped out with 44 and 46, respectively.
Aubree Hudson, also a 12th-grader, carded a 43 to join Cordle for the Lady Hurricane win.
Cleveland junior Zoie Stinnett shot 49, with senior Ava Robbins adding a 53.
