Notre Dame High School is proud to announce the appointment of Ben Gaines as the new Head Coach of the Boys and Girls Tennis programs. Gaines succeeds Steve Joyce, who led the program for the past two seasons and is stepping away to spend more time with family and grandchildren. We thank Coach Joyce for his dedication and service to Notre Dame and its student-athletes.
Originally from Jackson, TN, Coach Gaines brings a strong background in both competitive play and instruction. He boasts over 20 years of playing experience, including state championships and All-State honors.
He currently serves as an Associate Teaching Professional at Manker Patten Tennis Club and has more than a decade of coaching experience, working with players of all ages and skill levels—from beginners to top-ranked high school athletes and collegiate-level competitors at the NAIA and Division III levels.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ben Gaines to our athletic family,” said Dr. Eric Schexnaildre, Head of School at Notre Dame. “His passion for tennis, dedication to student development, and track record of success align perfectly with our school’s values. We’re excited to see where he takes the program.”
“Coach Gaines has already worked with many of our current players through his role at Manker Patten. His focus on discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship will be instrumental in building a competitive and supportive environment for our student-athletes,” said Dr. Schexnaildre.
Coach Gaines will be supported by returning assistant coaches Pepita Nolan, Ed Mahn, and Hannah Cassell. The TSSAA tennis season for both Boys and Girls takes place in the spring.
