Dr. Thomas Lee “Tom” Burgner, 86, of Hixson, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 27, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.

He was born on October 10, 1938, to the late W. Lee Burgner and Cecil Hensley Burgner.

A devoted servant of Christ, Dr. Burgner faithfully served as an ordained minister with the Church of God for more than 55 years. Throughout his ministry, he pastored and served in numerous churches across Florida, South Carolina, North Georgia, South Georgia, and throughout Tennessee. He was instrumental in building not only churches but also community—overseeing the construction of the Church of God state offices, staff housing, and state parsonages. He also played a key role in the building of Graysville Church of God and Glover Hill Church of God.

Dr. Burgner had a deep love for the outdoors and took great joy in gardening and spending time in nature. A gifted artist and craftsman, he found fulfillment in painting, restoring antiques, building model cars, and even teaching himself to play the saxophone. His creativity extended to the peaceful koi ponds he maintained in his yard, which brought him much joy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy Burgner; his sons, Jeffrey Lynn (Christie), Thomas Alan “Todd” (Leighanne) and Michael Scott (Macaria); eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His legacy of faith, creativity, and quiet strength will continue to live on through those who loved him.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 1 p.m. at the Ministry Center in Hixson, Tn., with Dr. Tim Hill officiating.

Arrangements are by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8911 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy Daisy, Tn. 37379, 423 843-2525.
