  • Friday, June 27, 2025
Posting its largest point total and winning margin, the Cleveland Waterdogs capped their Chattanooga Area Swim League regular season in convincing fashion Thursday evening.

Hosting their the Ridgeside Dolphins at the Cleveland Community Center pool, the Waterdogs were able to avenge an earlier loss and even their season record at 3-3 with a 441-316 runaway.

Securing third place in the Red Division race, the Waterdogs dominated nine of the dozen age divisions, behind the strength of a 56-43 swimmer advantage.

Led by a trio of "Perfect 19s" from Brooklyn Shumway, Gracie Dauphinais and Lincoln Eberly, the hosts had 19 swimmers score double-digits, while only 13 visitors did so, none reaching the perfection mark.

The Waterdogs swept the four youngest divisions behind winning efforts from Knox Berry (18 points, Boys 7-8), Zara DeBord (17, Girls 7-8), Zoe DeBord (12, Girls 6-Under) and Camden Gray (10, Boys 6-Under) and Charles Shumway (Boys 7-8).

The teams split the middle three brackets, before the Waterdogs dominated the oldest divisions.

Ridgeside (1-4) claimed the Girls 9-10 with Nora Price (17), Cora Hamilton (13) and Caroline Zimmerman (10) claiming the top three spots.

Madison Hicks (8) and Sofie Rullman (7) led the Waterdog effort.

The home team answered by taking four of the top five slots in the Boys 9-10 — Carter Gray (17), Harvey Eberly (16), Kyle Cusion (15) and Darius Wellington-O'Rourke (6).

Repeating the feat in the Girls 11-12 — Brooklyn Shumay (19), Alice Torchick (13), Makaria Mathews (7) and Ellery Chapman (7) — the Waterdogs also captured the Girls 11-12.

The Dolphins responded with a trio of double-digit performances — Charlie Schrader (17), Owen Swisher (16) and Jesse Zimmerman (12) — to take the Boys 11-12.

The host effort was topped by Christian Chai (13), plus Sam English and Jackson Hicks tying for fifth place with a half dozen points apiece.

While Ridgeside's Elizabeth Grace Schrader tied Laura Ward for the top spot in the Girls 13-14 with 15 points each, she was the lone Dolphin in the age bracket.

The Waterdogs got strong support from Elle Cusion (12), Bryn Williams (11) and Anna Torchick (7).

Outnumbering the hosts 6-4, Ridgeside came back strong in the Boys 13-14 with the first four high scores — Ryan Carpenter (17), Benjamin Pipes (12), Eli McBryar (11) and Krishna Chinnathambi (8).
Marquette Shumway topped the Waterdogs with a half dozen markers.

A pair of 15-year-olds — Gracelyn Dauphinais and Lincoln Eberly — led the two division wins with their "Perfect 19s" as the Cleveland squad swept the oldest two brackets with four of the top five Women's 15-Older tallies, plus the first four in the men's action.

In the women's tally, Waterdogs Alaina Chapman (14), Sydni Lauer (12) and Lily Cusion (9), while Caroline Carpenter topped the Dolphins with 10 markers.

While Jake Stone's seven points were the lone Ridgeside effort among the men, Ty Lauer (14), Matthew Fox (9) and Davis Hobbs (7), plus Timothy Collier (5), rounded out the home team win.
