Catherine Cross
Catherine Cross, 102, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at her residence.
She was employed by the State of Tennessee where she worked as a Homemaker Aide through the Welfare Department. She was a faithful and the oldest member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Missionary Society and the Nurses Guild.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cross Sr., with 75 years of marriage; parents, John and Lizza Wilson; son, Joe Cross Jr; daughter, Josephine Pierce; grandchildren, Gloria Lindsey, Catherine Pierce, Linda Faye Pierce; and sister, Thelma Kirk.
Survivors include daughter, Thelma (Robert Jr,) Chaney; grandchildren, Michelle pierce, Ophelia Pierce, Frank Pierce, Sr., David Pierce, Cheryl Bell, Charlotte Pierce, LaTasha Lindsey, Kierra Walker, Khadijah Walker, Robert Chaney III, Roy Lindsey, Joseph (Quiana) Cross, and Royce (Tequanna) Cross; daughter-in-law, Desdemonia Cross; of Atlanta, Ga; God-grandchildren, Yolanda Franklin and Tawana Franklin; close friends, Mildred Hicks and Liz Hester; 16 great-great-grandchildren and five great-great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Catherine will lie in state on Friday at 9 a.m. at Union grove Baptist Church with funeral service to follow at noon with Pastor Glen Taylor as the eulogist.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
