James Vernon Herod
James Vernon Herod, 94, of Collegdale, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021.
James was a World War II Navy veteran, and a member of the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Roberta Herod; parents, Bradford and Martha Herod; sisters, Marie Scronne, Margaret Cunningham, Mildred Gilwreath; and brothers, Edward, Jerry and Victor Herod.
He is survived by his children, Carolyn Shupe, Dwight (Janita) Herod, Douglas (Donna) Herod; brother, Gene Herod; sister, Ann Travis; grandchildren, Jodi Steele, Courtney Herod, Amanda Mason, Jason Herod, Lori Akins, Chris Cramer, Jeff Cramer; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 19, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastors Fred Fuller and Dwight Herod officiating.
