Who Cares About MLB

  • Monday, April 5, 2021

When I was growing up in the 50s and 60s the biggest sporting event in the country was the World Series. How irrelevant has MLB become since those years? Last year game 3 of WS game had 8.1 million viewers, the lowest number since 1963 when they started keeping the ratings. The entire series averaged 9.785 million viewers, once again the lowest ever. And that was with the LA Dodgers playing.

In 2019 the last "normal" year before the pandemic attendance dropped for the 5th consecutive year and was the lowest since 2003. It's very apparent that MLB has been surpassed by other sports in popularity. A regular season NFL game draws more viewers than a World Series game when they go head to head.

So as far as most sports fans feel MLB can take their little All Star game and stick it wherever they want. I would suggest such, "woke," cities as Detroit, San Francisco and certainly DC would be an appropriate place. I have heard the decision will cost the Georgia economy $100 million. First of all I don't believe that figure. But even if true Georgia's GDP last year was $54 billion. $100 million is
.001 per cent of the Georgia economy. The great majority of those affected are the very ones you are supposedly helping. So enjoy your little All-Star game, I myself will be watching the Andy Griffith Show reruns.
