Carliss Felicia Norwood Battle-Bostic transitioned on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, in a local hospital.

 

She was born on March 4, 1962 in Chattanooga, to the parents of Alton and Katie Ruth Norwood. She was the eighth of nine siblings. From a young age, Carliss enjoyed playing tennis, swimming, softball, hanging out with siblings, family and friends. She was a 1981 graduate of Brainerd High School. She obtained a tennis scholarship to attend Tennessee State University, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 1985. Carliss began her teaching career with employment with the YMCA, Volunteer Community School, and Chambliss Children's Home. She became an entrepreneur, created and owned a daycare called Future Children's Learning Center for over 17 years. Carliss married Franklin Battle-Bostic in 2004 and they celebrated their 18-year wedding anniversary on December 20, 2021. Carliss brought about laughter, wisdom, fun loving experiences and motherly care to everyone. Her level of care, thoughtfulness, cooking, and wit will be truly missed by those who loved her.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Katie Ruth Norwood.

 

Survivors include her husband, Franklin Battle-Bostic; son, Franklin Rogers Norwood Battle; daughter, Catana Jones (James) Broughton; brothers, Gregory Norwood, Reginald Norwood, Victor Norwood, and Joseph Norwood; sisters, Cassandral Cambric, Antwanette Norwood Ervin, Karen Norwood (Eugene) Culver, Vickie Norwood, and Sonia Norwood Thornton; and aunt, Louise Carethers; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.

 

Carliss will lie in state on Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 12:30-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

 

A graveside service will be on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. in Forest Hills Cemetery.
