Edward Majoras
Edward Majoras, 89, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025, at home after a brief illness.
Edward was born in Lorain, Ohio on May 13, 1935. He served his country in the Air National Guard helping secure the north coast. Edward won over Mary Ann Pozega's heart and demonstrated his romantic acumen by dedicating her favorite song on a late night radio show. He later said, “I always hated that song, but well, you know.” Edward and Mary Ann were married on May 9, 1959. Their marriage lasted 57 years until her death in 2016. Edward was her ever-present, loving caretaker in the last years of her life.
The family moved to Chattanooga in 1972, and Edward resided in the same home ever since. He worked as a self-taught computer programmer for most of his career in local companies such as Lorain Cranes, World Carpet, Krystal, and Blue Cross. He completed his bachelor's degree in 1985 from UTC.
As a longtime member of St. Jude Catholic Church, Edward served on the Parish Council, and was an active liturgical participant as a lector, commentator, and lay minister of Holy Communion.
A man of principle, when the elementary school sent a letter demanding that his sons cut their hair, he responded that they would do so as soon as the girls cut their hair. Ironically, he loved giving his sons buzz cuts at the beginning of summer.
Ed was known for being a hard worker, but his favorite work memory was an early job as a bank teller where he taught all of the female tellers how to play poker.
While not necessarily a foodie, he was an adventurous eater. It takes a special person to eat pancakes without syrup and salad without dressing. His favorite breakfast spot was Mimi’s Cafe where they knew not to add syrup to his pancakes, but he probably single-handedly forced Red Lobster to cancel its all you can eat shrimp deal.
An avid antique collector, he kept his landline until the very end. His rental phone will need to be returned to AT&T. When shopping for a new car in 2023, he was disappointed that he couldn't find a Chevette as he had learned how to fix them while blindfolded.
Although a quiet man, you could always get him talking about his beloved Cleveland Browns and how Baker Mayfield was no Frank Ryan. Had he sworn to live until the Browns won the Super Bowl, he might have lived forever.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Majoras, sister Mary Jean, brothers, Ted Majoras, John Majoras, son, Daniel Majoras, and grandson, Ian Majoras.
Edward is survived by sons Ronald Majoras, John Majoras (Debbie), Donald Majoras (Rhonda), David Majoras (Sally), and daughter, Monica Majoras; grandchildren Jennifer Crews (Cody), Dr. Nicole Welch (Chris), Shannon Majoras (Jared), Andrew Majoras, Alex Majoras, Natali Majoras, Colton Cross; and great grandchildren Jackson Crews, Caroline Crews, Lacey Welch, Madeline Welch, Connor Welch, Clara Taylor, and McKenzie Cross.
We will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held at a future date to be announced.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Chattanooga and Phileo Home Care.
