Rebecca Ann Broome Smith went home to Jesus on Thursday morning, June 30, 2022, at the age of 88, surrounded by the great love and care of her four children.

Ann was born on April 16, 1934, in Chattanooga, the fifth of six children, to Julia and Fletcher Broome. She graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1953 and married Norman F. Smith on September 19, 1953 at Northside Baptist Church. She joined him during his service in the US Navy. They lived in Newnan, GA, Doylestown, OH, and North Canton, OH. In 1996, they returned to their Chattanooga roots and then moved to Lookout Mountain in 2013.

She went back to school at the age of 46 to become a nurse, applying her undeniable gifts as she lived to love, serve and care for others. Her servant-like heart aided in her natural gift of hospitality. Ann's bountiful creativity poured out in many outlets, notably as a seamstress, baker, and hostess. Her childlike sense of wonder made her a master storyteller. She was 'Mimi' to any and all she encountered, whether or not they were her own.

She loved Jesus deeply and along with her husband, shared her faith boldly with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Norman and her siblings, Hamilton Broome, Evelyn Callaway, Maxine Hess, and Audrey Hembree.

She is survived by her brother, Fletcher Lazenby Broome, her four children: Hollie (Don) Kent, Norman (Karen) Smith, Melanie (Bill) Dunham, Jerry (Pam) Smith; her 13 grandchildren: Beth (Joseph) Wingfield, Rachael (Norm) Pond, Yvonne (Venya) Slobodenko, Ian Dunham, Katie Kent, Thomas (Natalie) Smith, Aubrey (Billy) Painter, Claire (Easton) Coleman, Susan (Kyle) Bryant, Adam Dunham, Megan (Sam) Smith, Casey Smith, and Julia Smith; her 19 great-grandchildren: Teddy, Wilder, Hank, Kent, and Salt Wingfield, Samantha and Charlotte Pond, Lev and Pasha Slobodenko, Asher Gaby-Dunham, Rennick, Lincoln, and Declan Smith, Elijah Painter, Theophilus, Barnabas, and Rhoda Coleman, Follis and Carter Bryant; and many nieces and nephews.

Her family is grateful for loving care at Thrive at Brow Wood where she lived for the past year and a half.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to The Gideon’s International. ( gideons.org )
