Margaret “Peggy” Fehr Evans
A Celebration Of Life gathering for Margaret “Peggy” Fehr Evans, 78, will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 1-3 p.m. CST at The Saltbox Inn, 537 Hutcheson Road, in Cookeville, Tennessee.
My extraordinary mother, beloved Mom Mom to her three grandchildren and caring mother-in-law to my husband, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 5, 2022, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. We are in shock and grieving for the beautiful spirit the world has lost, but recognize my Mom received the only wish on her Christmas list…to be with my Dad.
My husband (Matt) and I were able to be with her when she passed. We held her hands, kissed her forehead and told her how much we loved her. My Mom just couldn’t live life without my Dad, and joined him five weeks after his death on October 28, 2022. My parents truly completed each other, and now they are together forever. What a testament to their love, and an inspiration to all who knew them.
Margaret “Peggy” Adele Fehr Evans was born on Dec. 31, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Amelia (Blessing) Fehr and the late Dr. Alexander J. Fehr. Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Frederick Alfred Fehr, and her husband, Eston Earl Evans.
Both Peggy and Eston Evans are survived by their beloved daughter, Jennifer Fehr (Evans) Underwood (and husband, Matthew C. Underwood of Hixson) and their much adored grandchildren Leah, Madelyn and Caleb. Peggy is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Peggy Evans graduated from Lebanon (PA) High School and received a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology in 1966 from Lebanon Valley College. My Mom and Dad met, and fell in love, on the campus of Lebanon Valley College. They married on June 25, 1966 in Lebanon, Pa. Peggy enjoyed a career as a social worker in both Pennsylvania and Texas, changing lives and caring for underserved communities. She also pursued clerical work in both Texas and Tennessee (including bookstore management at TN Tech University Bookstore, Cookeville, Tn.).
Their only daughter, Jennifer, was born in Austin, Tx., in 1977, after Eston and Peggy had traveled the world, lived overseas in Sweden and had more than enough fun to survive parenthood.
My Mom was always animated, hilarious, talkative, passionate about causes close to her heart and fiercely devoted to her family and my Dad. She called me “her reason for being” and all I ever wanted to do was make her proud. My parents were my “north and south” and my life will never be the same. But, they live on through me, my husband, their beloved grandchildren and all those who loved them throughout their lives.
