Lee Men's Golf Win Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

In a battle all week long, the Lee University men’s golf team posted a 299-team score in the third and final round and earned a victory at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. It was the first win of the season for the Flames and the first win for Coach Even Spence who is in his first season as the head coach. 
 
Lee shot a 880 over the three rounds to beat Belmont University by two strokes. In a field of 15 schools, 12 of them were NCAA D1 opponents. Delta State University and Christian Brothers University were the only two division two teams besides Lee.
 
Lee shot a 294 in round one and then followed that up with a 287 in round two.
In the third and final round they shot a 299 and managed to hold off Belmont who shot a 305 in round three for a final total of 882. The University of Southern Indiana came in third with a final score of 885.
 
Oliver Lewis Perkins paced the Flames coming in tied for fourth. He shot a 218 over the three rounds (71-76-71). Wyatt Bracket was just one shot back as he came in tied for eighth with a 219 (73-76-70). Bennett McNabb and Trey Melvin both shot a 223 for a 17th place finish. McNabb shot 78-75-70, while Melvin was 73-73-77. Noah Ross was the final team finisher for the Flames as he came in tied for 39th. He shot a 231 (77-74-80) over the three rounds.
 
Lee had three competitors as individuals as well in the tournament. George Cordall came in tied for 21st. He shot a 224 (83-72-69). His 69 in the final round was the second lowest round in the entire tournament as Michael Senn for Belmont shot a 68 in round one. Harrison Smith came in tied for 39th as an individual. He shot a 231 (78-79-74). Ben Seay was the final individual competing for the Flames and he came in tied for 46th. He finished the tournament with a 233 (80-74-79).
 
The Flames will be back in action April 8-9 at the Argonaut Invitational in Pensacola, Fla. It will be their final tournament of the regular season.
