Jimmy L. Baker, 77, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 25th, 2024, after a two-year battle with prostate cancer.
Son of James Birch Baker and Anna Lee (Wright) Baker, Jim was born on Dec. 1, 1946, in Benton, Tn. Jim grew up in Benton and graduated from Polk County High School. He was very active in 4H and helped on his family's farm.
After high school, he attended The University of Tennessee in Knoxville and graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing. Jim was a lifelong Vols fan. While in college, he served as a reservist in the Army National Guard. After college, Jim worked for Ford Motor Company in Atlanta, for several years, then moved to Chattanooga, where he owned Baker Business Systems. In 1979, he married his wife Pam (Lamb) Akins of 22 years. Together, they had three children: Jessica, Stephanie, and Alex. In 2010, he married his wife Edna Jane “EJ” (Henderson) Baker. Together, they enjoyed the community and events of the Chattanooga Yacht Club. Jim was a follower of Jesus Christ and attended Ridgedale Baptist Church. He loved animals and always kept his backyard birds well-fed.
Jim was preceded to heaven by his parents, James Birch and Anna Lee Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Jane “EJ” Baker; his ex-wife and mother of their children, Pam Akins; their children: Jessica Parson of Ringgold, and her husband Nic, Stephanie Montgomery of Fairhope, AL and her husband William, Alex Baker of Ooltewah, and his wife Sarah; daughter Madge (Revell) Chetwynd of Cary, NC and her husband David “Chet;” and ten grandchildren: Adley and Sarah Parson, Ethan, Sophie, and Amelia Montgomery, Isla and Ana Baker, and Amelia, Brian, and Kathryn Chetwynd.
Visitation services will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home, Valley View Chapel, on Wednesday, March 27, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Benton Town Cemetery in Benton, Tn.
