Benjamin Franklin is often credited with saying “there were only two things certain in life- death and taxes.”

However there are other sources who have equally defined the two serious topics in different ways.

A. Death

1. “The penultimate commercial transaction finalized by Probate.”

2. “The only thing society hasn’t succeeded in completely vulgarizing.”

3. “Something that comes along like a gas bill one can’t pay.”

4. “What politically correct doctors call a Negative Patient Outcome.”

B. Taxes (and Taxpayer)

(With April 15 rapidly approaching this seems an appropriate phrase and synonym for suicide.)

1. “Someone who works for the Federal government, but doesn’t have to take a civil service examination.”

2. “I work and pay taxes so wealthy people don’t have to.”

3. “I finally figured out what IRS stands for- ‘Insensitive Ruthless Shysters.’” (personal injury media advertisers not included)

4. “I believe we should all pay our taxes with a smile but they wanted cash.”

C. Death and Taxes

1. “Death and Taxes and Childbirth- there’s never any convenient time for any of them.” and finally,

2. “The only difference between death and taxes is that death doesn’t get worse every time Congress meets - Will Rogers.”
