The Chattanooga District Golf Association teed off its season on Saturday in the 3rd Annual North Georgia Four-Ball tournament hosted by Dalton Golf and Country Club.

The team of Ty Pendley and Samuel Johnson posted a tidy 7-under 65 in the best-ball event to stake a three-shot lead in the Championship Flight heading into Sunday’s final round.

Playing his home course, Pendley carded a round of 68 that included an eagle on the 327-yard par 4 15th hole. Johnson, a senior at Heritage High School who plays out of Council Fire Club, added birdies on the first and last holes to help the cause.

Three teams tied for second with opening rounds of 4-under 68 include Tyler Hogan and Lowery Thomas, David Noll and Nash Nance along with Mark Baggarly and Taylor Smith.

Corey Ferger and Matt Beall shot an 8-under 64 in the Championship Flight A to secure the day’s low round. Beall opened with an eagle en route to a round of 67.

Two teams are knotted atop the leaderboard in the Senior Championship Flight with rounds of 6-under 66.

Kip Henley tallied five birdies on his round, teaming with his brother, Brent, to grab a share of the lead, while Chris Hall reeled off four consecutive birdies starting at No. 3 to finish with a 68 partnering with Richard Keene as the duo attempt to defend their title from last year.

The team of Scott Davenport and Mike Nance sit two shots off the lead in the senior bracket after posting a 4-under 68.
