Roy C. Turley, 97, went to his heavenly home on Friday, July 19, 2024.

Roy was born in Chattanooga, Tn., on July 2, 1927, but soon moved to Gadsden, Al. He was the son of the late Lester Turley, Sr. and Havene Turley.

The word that best described Roy was servanthood. Roy served in the U. S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. While working for the TAG Railway and later Norfolk Southern Railway for 40 years, Roy also served in many capacities with the Boy Scouts of America. After retirement, he served as a volunteer for 40 years with the IRS VITA tax assistance program. In addition, he served as a volunteer for Memorial Hospital, serving 41 years. Roy received numerous awards and recognition while serving in these areas. Most importantly, Roy served his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, throughout his adult years as a faithful member of Ridgeview Baptist Church.

Many people will remember Roy for his love of tennis. He would spend hours playing at the Brainerd tennis courts. He played mostly with a group of friends called the “Brainerd Tennis Nuts”. However, he was known to challenge anyone who showed up, be they young or old!

He is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Doris, sons, Steve (Pam) and Mark (Diana), daughter, Pat Steele, sisters, Christine Vice and Cathyrn Dixon, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Crystal and the entire staff at The Bridge at Ooltewah for their compassion and care during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ridgeview Baptist Church, 6 North Moore Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37411.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26, in the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37404 with Pastor Bruce Sloan officiating.

Arrangements are by the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 8214 East Brainerd Rd., Chattanooga, TN 37421.
