Nine McCallie students presented five innovative projects, with multiple entries earning category wins, special awards, and even advancement to the International Science and Engineering Fair

Before spring break, several of McCallie’s science research students participated in the Chattanooga Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

Benjamin Jeong took second place in Technology Meets the Arts. His project was Artificial Lung: From Science to Art and Back Again. Benjamin's interdisciplinary approach blended creative design with scientific application, earning him top marks in his category.

Jack Archer, Everett Guo and Will Turrell took first place in Embedded Systems. Their project was Airbrake-Controlled Rocket: Controlling Apogee. This team wowed judges with their engineering precision and innovative thinking.

Nishanth Basava, Akhil and Nikhil Giddaluri took first place in Environmental Engineering, third overall Fairwide, and ISEF Observer Selection. Their project was PyroShield: A Novel Framework for Wildfire Forecasting, Health Hazard Assessment, and Therapeutic Discovery Using Machine-Learning Classification, In-Vitro Toxicology, and De Novo Lead Optimization. Their wide-ranging project earned recognition in multiple areas and selection as ISEF observers.

Anthony Xian took first place in Behavioral Science, American Psychological Association Award, Runner-Up – Overall Fair and ISEF Finalist. His project was You Know Yourself Best: How Self-Cognition Impacts Working Memory. Anthony’s research into behavioral science earned him multiple distinctions and a spot as an ISEF finalist.

Joshua Kim took first place in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Yale Science & Engineering Award, Overall Winner – Second Consecutive Year, and ISEF Finalist. His project was Optimization of One-Component Ionizable Amphiphilic Janus Dendrimer Design for Enhanced Dendrimersome Nanoparticle mRNA Delivery. Joshua once again secured the top overall award at the fair, along with a prestigious Yale honor. He will represent Tennessee at ISEF for the second year in a row.
