SEWANEE FOOTBALL DEFEATS MILLSAPS, 35-12

(Jackson, Miss.)-The Sewanee football team won its 399th game of the
century here Saturday Oct. 30 with a rain-soaked 35-12 victory against
Millsaps in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game.

The Tigers (5-3, 4-1) will host defending SCAC champion Trinity (TX) on
Saturday Nov. 6 at 1:30 p.m. CST, with the winner claiming the 1999 title.
Trinity (8-0, 4-0) defeated Rhodes, 45-17 earlier today and looks for its
seventh straight conference crown. Sewanee has never won five conference
games in a season, while Trinity has 27 straight regular season wins.

In Sewanee's win against Millsaps, junior quarterback Max Fuller led all
rushers with 93 yards on 12 carries and a 47-yard scoring run at 6:20 of
the third quarter, while freshman running back K.D. Walker from Huntsville,
Ala., gained 77 yards on 11 carries and scored once on a 19-yard run at
7:42 of the third quarter.

The Sewanee special teams scored the first touchdown of the game (2:19 in
the first quarter) as Esau McCaulley blocked a Millsaps punt and defensive
end Eddie Yeh returned the recovery 33 yards for the touchdown. Sewanee
also scored on reserve quarterback Kirk Holtgrewe's four-yard run at 14:21
of the fourth quarter which junior running back Devin DeLaughter's 31-yard
scoring pass to David Witt 10 minutes later closed out the Tigers scoring.
Freshman Ben Tuck converted on all five extra point attempts.
Sewanee sophomore linebacker Jason Wheat (Clarksville, TN) had a game high
15 tackles, Wes Bradley and Chase Neal had interceptions and Dusty Bright
had a fumble recovery.

ESPN & GAME DAY

The ESPN camera crew and reporters will be at Sewanee the
week of Nov. 7 to do a "Game Day ''segment on the 1899 Sewanee football
team which was 12-0 and Southern Champions. The "Iron Men'' story will
air during ESPN's Game Day show on Saturday Nov. 13, the same day that
Sewanee visits Tuscaloosa, Ala., to play Stillman College.
