Catherine Theresa Cahill Mulholland, 85, of Signal Mountain, died on Monday, Oct. 31, 2005.
Catherine was born on Aug. 5, 1920, in the Bronx, N.Y. This cute little baby was delivered by a mid-wife which was a common practice in those days. She grew up with two brothers, Harry and Robbie, and two sisters, Eleanor and Marion, in a loving home environment. Robbie became a Catholic priest and located at St. Francis Friary in Fresh Meadows, N.Y., before he died. Catherine was the last of her siblings to pass away.
Catherine, better known to all of us as Kaye, grew up as a tomboy, and was very protective of her brothers and sisters, and occasionally got into fights just to protect them.
She married Edward J. Mulholland in February, 1940 and they eventually moved to New Rochelle, N.Y. Their only child, Catherine Theresa Mary Mulholland, was born on Aug. 15, 1945. They were both very active in the American Legion. Catherine was mainly a housewife and worked occasionally to supplement the family income. Edward passed away in his sleep on Dec. 16, 1979, at the age of 61.
Catherine moved to New Bern, N.C., in the 1980s to be close to her daughter and her family. She eventually moved into Alexian Village in the early 1990s, which she valued and loved and made many friends.
Her daughter, Cathie, died of breast cancer in December of 1999. Catherine is dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Donna Marie Hall; her two great-granddaughters, Kelsey Renee Hall and Dallas Leigh Hall; and her son-in-law, Orson Hall.
A funeral Mass will be said at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday at the main chapel of Alexian Village. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alexian Brothers Foundation.
