Genealogist Authored Six Books, Traveled Extensively

Conrad Wade Feltner, 66, died at his home on Sunday, May 6, 2007.

Conrad was a native of Kentucky, graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington, and was an alumnus of the University of Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Elizabeth Feltner and his father, John Conrad Feltner.

Conrad was a genealogist as well as an avid reader, and during his life authored six books on family history. He was co-founder of the Feltner Family Reunion held each August at the J.M. Feltner 4-H Camp in London, Ky. As a lover of music, Conrad played trombone in a dance band for 16 years. He was an honorary Kentucky colonel and had been president of the congregation at First Christian Church in Middlesboro, Ky. He also had held many leadership roles in the Lions Club.

Conrad was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired engineer from BellSouth.

Travel was one of Conrad’s passions, having visited all 50 states and 23 countries throughout the world. He loved to observe people and to partake of their local culture.

A lifelong University of Kentucky basketball fan, he had attended games since 1951, first in Memorial Coliseum and later at Rupp Arena.

Conrad was a former member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

At Conrad’s request, his body was donated to the Genesis Medical Education and Research Institute in Memphis.

A memorial is planned at the Feltner Family reunion this August.

Conrad is survived by his wife, Sherri Lewis Feltner; sons, Jacob Conrad Feltner, Robert Aaron Lewis and Benjamin Charles Lewis; his sister, Maret Garard and her husband, Richard, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; niece, Kate Garard, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and nephew, Wade Garard, of Indiana; and his two loving companion cats, Spice and Sassy.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 7454 East Brainerd Road.
