Gary Whaley, 62, of East Ridge, died on Monday, October 19, 2009 in a local hospital.
He was a loyal member of Spring Creek Road Baptist Church for over 50 years. Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He was a graduate of East Ridge High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
He had been employed with Service Merchandise over 25 years, and for the past ten years, had worked as the custodian at Spring Creek Road Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Manson and Helen Whaley, stepmother, Mary Whaley, and sister, Shirley Duckett.
Survivors include his sisters, Nancy McRoy, of East Ridge, and Connie (Michael) Hughes, of Chatsworth, Ga.; nieces and nephews, David McRoy and Fiancee Amber Fleming of East Ridge, Angie and Joey Dashler of Dalton, Ga., and Chrissie and Tommy Stewart of Dalton; great-nieces, Bailey Dashler, Chloe Dashler, Mallory Stewart and Madison Stewart.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. James Julian officiating. Burial will be in Lomenick Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home.
