Meyer Elected Director At Large Of American Council Of Engineering Companies Of Tennessee

Chattanooga engineer Stephen Meyer, PE, assistant vice president with Volkert, Inc., has been elected Director at Large of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee for 2010-2011. The organization represents more than 100 engineering firms statewide.

Mr. Meyer has more than 30 years of engineering experience and is a registered professional engineer in 14 states and Washington, D.C.

He has been associated with Volkert since 1996 where his work has been focused on transportation projects including design of the TDOT Chattanooga Smartway System, which includes over 60 cameras located on I-75, I-24 and US-27; a traffic impact study for the area surrounding the new Volkswagen manufacturing plant; and fiber optic cable design for traffic signals on Gunbarrel Road, Hixson Pike and State Route 153 in Hamilton County.

Mr. Meyer was Hamilton County engineer from 1985-1991. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a BSE degree in Mechanical Engineering. He received a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration on transportation from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Mr. Meyer has served as chairman of the Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Board since 1995. He is a past president of the Southeast Chapter of ACEC of Tennessee and the Tennessee Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.

Ed Hargraves, PE, Askew Hargraves Harcourt & Associates, Inc., Memphis, is the immediate past president of ACEC of Tennessee.

ACEC of Tennessee officers assumed their offices on July 1, and will be formally installed during the organization’s annual meeting, August 25-27, in Murfreesboro, Tn.

Founded in 1968, ACEC of Tennessee is a statewide organization with chapters in Southeast Tennessee, East Tennessee, Nashville and Memphis. The organization is committed to providing leadership on business issues affecting engineering firms and to increasing public awareness of the value of engineering.
