UTC Volleyball Signs 4 During Early Signing Period

  • Monday, November 26, 2012
UTC head volleyball coach Travis Filar announced Monday the signing of four future Mocs set to join the team for the 2013 fall season.

Kendall Sexton (Orlando, Fla.), Emily Morrison (Norcross, Ga.) Anne Bachmann (Lincoln, Neb.) and Allie Davenport (Tyrone, Ga.) signed national letters of intent during the early signing period to play Chattanooga volleyball.

Sexton played middle blocker for head coach Mike Ladewski at William R. Boone High School in Orlando, Fla., and is the daughter of Jeff and Sonya Sexton. The 6-foot middle letteredall four years with the Braves. Leading her team to a state runner up finish in Division 6A her sophomore year, Sexton is a three-time Metro East All-Conference First Team selection. During her junior season, she was named Braves' MVP and led her team to a first place finish in the 17-and-under Girls National Volleyball Championship in Columbus, Ohio in July 2012.

Morrison is a 6-foot outside hitter, playing her high school career at St. Pius X Catholic in Atlanta, Ga., for head coach John Frederick, and is the daughter of Jamie and Mary Morrison. Morrison is a four-time GVCA First Team All-Area selection and three-time First Team All-State selection. She finished her career with Golden Lions with a record 1258 kills and a single-season high 417 kills in 2012. During her junior and senior seasons, St. Pius X finished as GHSA AAA State Runners-Up, and she was the recipient of the Golden Lion Award after the close of the fall season.

Chattanooga adds a setter to the roster with the signing of Bachmann. The 5-foot-9 Nebraskan comes to UTC from Lincoln Pius X High School, and is the daughter of Joseph and Penny Bachmann. Bachmann lettered four years under head coach Jake Moore. The setter helped guide her team to back-to-back fourth place finishes in the Class B state tournament in 2009 and 2010, but the Thunderbolts claimed the State Championship in 2011. Anne was named to the Lincoln Journal "Star Players to Watch" list in 2011 and 2012, and was named team captain her final season.

The Mocs round out the early signing class with another outside hitter in Davenport. The 5-foot-11 outside joins Chattanooga after lettering four years for Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Ga., for head coach Paul Collins. Davenport, the daughter of Bo and Peggy Davenport, led the Patriots to back-to-back state titles in 2011 and 2012. She is a two-time All-State First Team selection, four-time All-Area Team selection and was named All-Area Player of the Year and the Georgia AAAA State Player of the Year in 2012. She was added to the 2012 Under Armour All-American Watch List and finished her career with more than 1300 career kills. She ranked first in the state of Georgia with 645 kills and second with 141 aces.

"We are excited and feel truly blessed to have such great student-athletes set to join the program," Filar said. "All four individuals are phenomenal athletes, intense competitors, and most importantly, great people who truly lead themselves in all they do because they come from outstanding families. They all have been leaders of winning programs in both high school and club, and will be instrumental in continuing to build a championship program here at Chattanooga Volleyball."
