A couple is facing charges of child abuse and neglect after they left five children ages six and younger alone while they both worked.

Neighbors said that happened on a number of occasions at the residence on Arbor Place occupied by Isaac Johns and Debrah Perez.

When police arrived, no one answered the door. An officer found Ms. Perez trying to leave out the back door with the children.

Police said a baby had loose bluish skin. An ambulance was summoned to take the baby to the hospital. Police were later told that due to malnutrition the situation was life-threatening for the four-month old.

The house was dirty and smelled with old food on the floor and the toilets not working. The children were unbathed.

Police said, "The duplex was not fit for an animal to live in."
