Salvation Army Requests Fan Donations

  • Friday, June 22, 2012

With temperatures rising in the Tennessee Valley, individuals are turning to The Salvation Army for relief from the heat. To meet the need, Salvation Army caseworkers are distributing free box fans and water to low income individuals and families affected by the heat.

“Over 200 families have already called needing box fans, we have only been able to help half of the families and with the hottest days still ahead, the need will certainly grow,” said Area Commander, Major Algerome Newsome. “We need the community to join the relief effort and donate new box fans.”

If you or someone you know is in need of a fan, please call 756-1023. Those in need of a cool drink of water may visit the hydration station at 800 McCallie Ave  Passersby will be able to quench their thirst from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. every day that the temperature exceeds 90 degrees.

Chattanooga residents may donate new box fan donations to the following Salvation Army locations: 822 McCallie Ave. and 2140 East 28th Street. Cleveland donations may be made at The Salvation Army at 435 Inman Street.

Monetary gifts may also be dropped by or mailed to 822 McCallie Ave., and are accepted online at www.csarmy.org or by calling 800 Sal-Army.  For more information about the Chattanooga Salvation Army, please visit www.csarmy.org, Facebook, and Twitter.
