Violet Marie Bates, 69, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 in a local hospital.
She was a native and lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lottie Wilson, daughter, Rosa Lee Gentry, sister, Josephine Lynn, and brothers, James Lee Wilson and Roy Brooks.
She is survived her husband, James Edward Bates; children, Lottie Marie (Sean Vance) East, Johnny Richard (Kathy) Gentry, Jr., Judy Ann (Jerry) Schrimpsher, Jesse Lamar (Kim) Gentry, Debbie Sue (James) Taylor, and David William (Marie) Gentry; brother, Lawrence Wilson; sister, Tippie Jane Redmon; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, Aug. 2, at 3 p.m. at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
