Keep The City Golf Courses - And Response (2)

  • Monday, September 16, 2013

In recent days a number of the area golf courses have been purchased by one individual.  I continue to hear rumors that Mayor Andy Berke will propose to get rid of Brainerd and Brown Acres golf courses.  According to reports they operate in the black.  These courses offer a well maintained and reasonably priced option for play in this area and offer the retired community a great venue for recreation and exercise at a reasonable price.

Chattanooga has been listed by some as one of the top places to retire and this adds to that advantage. I urge the city to retain these valuable assets.

I golf occasionally and our city courses always offer a great value and a nice challenge. I've had quite a few friends come in from out of town and they are always saying how they want to play our city courses and how lucky we are to have them. Isn't that a great plus for Chattanooga's resume?

From all accounts (even the mayor's office) both courses are making a profit, so why even think of getting rid of them? The mere fact this is even considered makes me wonder about the overall direction of our new city government.

I'm all for saving money, combining services, and becoming lean and mean, but you can't lose sight of the big picture. I'm quite sure there are other things to cut, sell off, or otherwise get rid of, that aren't making a profit. Why don't we start with those?

Count me as being in agreement with Mr. Brooks and Mr. Montgomery. Why get rid of something that works?

Surely there are other things that would make more sense to get rid of. Perhaps something that loses money instead?

It's a shame we have so many gun battles in certain parts of the city. An outside could come in, look at a map with the number of gun incidents and quickly formulate that most of inside Chattanooga ... more
