Marilyn Griffin McAnnally, 63, of Signal Mountain, died in a local hospital on Friday, September 6, 2013.

She was born in Gadsden, AL, to the late James and Wynona Griffin.

After graduating from Auburn University, Marilyn taught at Fairview High School in Williamson County, TN.  She moved to Chattanooga in 1985 where she taught mathematics at Baylor School for over 20 years.

She loved many things in life but nothing more than the opportunity to help someone in need.  Her favorite moments were in the victories of her students, friends, colleagues, and family.  She was a tireless encourager who used her talents and gifts to advance the causes of those around her.  She spent her life trying to improve the lives of others, and she always saw the best in those fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived by her husband, John McAnnally; son, John-Ryan McAnnally (Kim); granddaughters Hannah and Emma McAnnally; sisters Betty Holland (Marston), Arab, Alabama, and Gail Sutphin, Atlanta, Georgia;  sisters-in-law Anne Harris (Lynn) and Martha Mosteller (Darrell), both of Cullman, Alabama; nieces Lindsay Sutphin, Nikki Whitehead (Shane), Stacy Lindsay (Brandon), and Emily Chamblee (Skylar); nephews Marty Holland (Shiela) and Dustin Holland (Stacy).

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Baylor School Scholarship and Financial Aid Fund.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m., at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, 612 James Boulevard, Signal Mountain. Visitation at the church will follow. Interment will be on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. CDT, at Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, AL.
