Gary Eugene Ballew, 65, of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, died on Friday, October 17, 2014 surrounded by his family. 

He was a lifelong resident of Tunnel Hill.  Mr. Ballew was a United States Navy veteran having served on the USS Lowery during Vietnam.  He was of the Baptist faith and he retired in 2007 from Dixie Industries in Chattanooga as a Supervisor with 31 years of service.  Mr. Ballew was a simple man who enjoyed his time on his farm and in the outdoors.  He loved his family, taking care of his mother, playing the guitar, riding his tractor, working in the vegetable garden, his animals, as well as being a carpenter.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Claude “Deacon” Ballew; brother, J.W. Ballew; and two nephews, Richie Ballew and Michael “Hawk” Ballew.

Survivors include his daughters, Leigh (Jason) Headrick of Ringgold, Nicky Ballew of Rock Spring, and Kelly Ballew of Tunnel Hill; mother, Mary “Tiny” Ballew of Tunnel Hill; sisters, Mildred  Vest (Dennis) Duckett of Ringgold, Marjorie Watkins of Tunnel Hill, Freida (Jim) Bowman of Ringgold, Faye Ward Wells of Ringgold, and Sherry (Charles) Zimmerman of Ringgold; brothers, Jerry Ballew of Ringgold and Terry (Cheryl) Ballew of Tunnel Hill; four grandchildren, Austin and Garrett Headrick and Corey and Kelsey Gilreath; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Danny Vest officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gordy Memorial Gardens with military honors.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Oct. 20, from 1-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
